Naomi Shuyama-Gómez is a writer based in the greater NYC area, on ancestral and unceded Munsee Lenape land. Her fiction and poetry appear or are forthcoming in Gulf Coast Magazine, The Cincinnati Review, The Journal, Michigan Quarterly Review, The Florida Review, the minnesota review, Mount Hope Literary Journal, Reflex Flash Fiction, and Rigorous Literary Journal.
She’s received scholarships/fellowships from Kundiman, CRIT Works LLC., Immigrant Writers’ Workshop, New York State Summer Writer’s Institute, and Asian American Writers’ Workshop. She was the winner of MQR’s 2021 Lawrence Foundation Prize selected by Julie Buntin. She was a finalist for Glimmer Train’s Very Short Fiction as well as Brilliant Flash Fiction’s Wow Us contests. She was awarded an O. Henry Prize by Lauren Groff. Her story is forthcoming in The Best Short Stories 2023: The O. Henry Prize.
She holds a M.A. in English and a B.S. in International Relations from Seton Hall University, where she taught first-year writing from 2018-2020.
